5 Things You Need to Know About…. Schlüter’s Electric Underfloor Heating System

18 May, 2018 (10:09)

As a tiler, you’ll no doubt be familiar with our Schlüter-DITRA 25 uncoupling membrane. But do you know that we have an electric underfloor heating system that includes the same great functionality? Here are five key takeaways on our Schlüter-DITRA-HEAT-E-DUO system… trust us, it’ll make creating heated tile and stone surfaces far easier, as well as keeping them toasty warm!

It’s only 7.5mm thick

Low profile underfloor heating systems are a fantastic find, as they can be used across retrofit and new build projects alike. You’ll struggle to find a system as thin as DITRA-HEAT-E-DUO, which consists of a 5.5mm uncoupling membrane with a 2mm fleece on its underside. What’s more, there’s a lot of functionality in those layers – which brings us to our next point…

You can create a fully functional heated floor assembly with fewer layers

A traditional electric underfloor heating system requires numerous products – insulation board, underfloor heating mat and uncoupling membrane to name a few, not to mention encapsulation layers. Then there’s the amount of time it takes to install all of them. DITRA-HEAT-E-DUO captures a lot of the elements you’ll need in one product, for a quicker and lower installation.

The uncoupling matting provides all the features needed to protect a heated floor assembly and keep it free from cracks. And that 2mm fleece we mentioned earlier? It’s a powerful little layer, that allows the system to deliver more heat to the surface during the warm-up phase and provides sound reduction of up to 13dB.

It doubles as a waterproofing system

Just like DITRA 25, the DITRA-HEAT-E-DUO system can function as a waterproof layer – all you need to do is seal the membrane seams with our sealing band and adhesive. Another great advantage is that you can use the membrane as waterproofing provision across a whole area and then simply install heating cable into select zones; with the cables nestled into the matting rather than standing proud on top of it, you can maintain a completely level floor, across both heated and unheated areas. Then it’s ready to tile. Easy!

Clip-in cables make it more efficient and practical

With DITRA-HEAT-E-DUO, your clients won’t be wasting electricity heating areas that feet never touch. A loose cable means that you can design the system around the features of the room and target exact areas. It also means that there’s no need for tape or adhesive and that you can easily achieve completely even spacing.

It can also be used on walls

Underwall heating offers a way to waterproof and create heated features, such as alternatives to towel rails and radiators. This can be a safer option for projects that cater to the elderly or children, as the surface temperature will be far lower than with traditional options. Besides this, it’s an excellent way to add even more luxury to an installation!

That’s a brief introduction to DITRA-HEAT-E-DUO, which combines uncoupling and electric surface heating into one, simple-to-install solution.  We hope you’ll give it a try for your next project!
